Commercial Projects
Charles Starck’s commercial portfolio reflects decades of leadership in complex, large-scale design. While serving in senior roles with previous firms, he managed and directed projects for nationally recognized clients, including more than 130 Publix Super Markets renovations across the Southeast and multiple mass-timber Candlewood Suites hotels developed through the U.S. Army’s Privatized Army Lodging (PAL) program. These projects demonstrate his ability to unite innovation, efficiency, and technical precision through disciplined project management.
The Inn at Celebration – Kissimmee, FL
While serving as project architect with a previous firm, Charles guided the one-of-a-kind design and development of The Inn at Celebration, a boutique hotel within the master-planned community of Celebration, Florida. His leadership ensured the design respected the property’s architectural context while elevating guest experiences through thoughtful detailing, spatial refinement, and a design that evokes the beauty and elegance of 1920’s Florida.
Publix Super Markets – Southeastern United States
While serving as senior and project architect with a previous firm in Atlanta, Charles directed the design and renovation of more than 130 Publix Super Markets across the Southeast. Beginning with the company’s expansion into Georgia, he later led projects that established Publix’s presence in the Birmingham and Nashville markets. His work included comprehensive ADA accessibility evaluations and the successful conversion of existing sites, ensuring each store met Publix’s standards for quality, efficiency, and brand consistency.
Museum Place Condominiums – Fort Worth, TX
While serving as project architect with a Dallas, TX firm, Charles contributed to the design of a seven-story condominium building within the Museum Place development in Fort Worth, Texas. The project combined urban living with proximity to the city’s cultural district and reflected early mixed-use planning efforts in the area.
IHG Army Hotels
While serving as executive architect and design manager with a previous international firm, Charles led the design and construction of multiple IHG Army Hotels through the U.S. Army’s Privatized Army Lodging (PAL) program. Working within highly restrictive Department of Defense Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection standards, he directed pioneering efforts in mass-timber construction, including the nation’s first cross-laminated timber (CLT) hotel at Redstone Arsenal.
Because CLT was not recognized in the applicable building codes at the time, Charles coordinated blast-resistance testing with national agencies and engineering partners and led a performance-based approval path to authorize CLT outside prescriptive code limits. His leadership advanced sustainable building methods, improved efficiency, and demonstrated that innovative materials could meet the military’s most rigorous performance requirements.

“The CLT (Mass Timber) hotels were some of the most rewarding work I’ve done — they changed the way people think about speed, efficiency, and sustainability in construction.”
